Notebook Reviews: THE JEWEL OF THE NILE – Movies In Focus

3.5 out of 5 stars

Lewis Teague – 1985

The Jewel Of The Nile is an enjoyable follow-up to 1984’s Romancing The Stone. It might not be as good as Robert Zemeckis’ original, but it still has a lot of charm. The script features some witty lines and the film’s set pieces are great – does The Living Daylights owe it some debt? The chemistry between Michael Douglas, Kathleen Turner and Danny DeVito is fantastic.

The only down side to the film is that the plot relies on too much coincidence and Jack Nitzsche’s score is a little dated. Regardless of that, The Jewel Of The Nileis good ’80s fun.
