After bringing the fan-favorite character back to life in their rebooted version of DuckTales, Disney is reportedly eyeing a full reboot of the cult classic Darkwing Duck series for its streaming platform Disney+, according to Variety.

Sources report that though no direct order has been given for the project, nor has any writer been tapped for the potential series, Point Grey’s Seth Rogen, Evan Goldberg, James Weaver and Alex McAtee are set to develop and executive produce the reboot with the latter overseeing it for the company.

First premiering in September 1991 and created by Tad Stones, the original three-season series centered on the titular superhero (Jim Cummings) as he’s aided by sidekick and pilot Launchpad McQuack (Terry McGovern), who originally debuted in DuckTales, in fighting crime in their city of St. Canard. When not fighting crime, he is living his life as his secret identity, unassuming suburbanite Drake Mallard with his adopted daughter Gosalyn (Christine Cavanaugh), who would sometimes help in fighting crime.

All three main characters would reappear in Disney’s rebooted DuckTales series, with Beck Bennett (Saturday Night Live) taking over the role of Launchpad and Stephanie Beatriz (Brooklyn Nine-Nine) taking over as Gosalyn and Chris Diamantopoulos (The Wonderful World of Mickey Mouse). The series also changed the origin story to Darkwing being a fictional character of a show-within-a-show and sees a character named Jim Starling (Cummings) portraying the role before Mallard (Diamantopoulos) taking over the role and becoming the real-life superhero.

Darkwing Duck reboot would mark the latest property to get an update at Disney+ after the series adaptation of High School Musical, as well as the in-development female-led reboot of Doogie Howser, M.D. and Willow sequel series.
